The Water-Carrier Is Dead

The film is about a friendship between two men. One of them works as a water carrier. His wife died twenty years ago. He spends his days thinking about her. Mourning sits at the centre of his life. The other man works in the funeral trade. He stands next to death every day. For that reason he has chosen to enjoy life. He believes death will end every pleasure. The two meet and grow close. Each begins to question the other’s view. The water carrier is pushed toward living. Nobody asks him to forget the woman he lost. But he is told that grief should not stop a life. The film sets death and the pleasure of living side by side. Farid Shawqy and Ezzat Al Alaily appear in the one hundred three minute film, an Egyptian production Salah Abu Seif finished in 1977.
