What The Woman Who Loves Giraffes Is About
In 1956, at twenty three, the zoologist Anne Innis Dagg travelled alone to South Africa and became the first person to study giraffes in their natural habitat; her research produced the standard book on the animal, still taught today. Even so, the doors of the academy closed on her and her career was blocked for more than thirty years. The documentary follows Dagg, at eighty five, walking the same road again, showing both how much smaller the world of giraffes she knew has become and the reasons behind her own story. In Alison Reid’s eighty one minute Canadian production, Tatiana Maslany voices the young Dagg, with Victor Garber also reading. It opened on 16 November 2018.
