The World of Love

Yoon Ga-eun's 2025 Korean film is her first feature in six years. Jooin, seventeen, is a well-liked and popular student; a few words spoken in anger set off a chain of effects around her she did not expect. Anonymous notes then start arriving, questioning what she did. While following a teenager forced to carry the consequence of her own words, the film opens something behind it that is far heavier and has been buried a long time. Yoon is known for building the world of the young without judging it from an adult vantage, and here too, instead of a narrative looking for someone to blame, she creates a space where everyone is partly right and partly cruel. It screened in Toronto. Who it's for: viewers who like the quiet, observational strand of Korean cinema and drama about adolescence. Who it's not for: anyone who would rather not approach a story built on the aftermath of sexual assault.
