What The Zookeeper Is About
Jonah Ludovic, a keeper at a small city zoo caught in the middle of a war in Eastern Europe, arrives at work after heavy shelling to find that the staff have abandoned the place. An elderly guard and a vet are all that remain; the three try to keep the animals alive until an international mission arrives. The feed runs out, the water is cut, the cages are opened by bombs, and the question of whose side a person is on reaches the gate of the zoo; the man also hides a woman who has taken refuge there. Sam Neill takes the lead in Ralph Ziman’s hundred and eight minute film, with Gina McKee and Om Puri also appearing. It was completed in 2001.
