What There Is Such a Lad Is About
Pashka Kolokolnikov is twenty seven, drives a truck up and down the Chuysky highway in the Altai, and meets and loses people every single day. He is a dreamer, falls in love easily and stretches the truth a great deal, but because he worries so little about his own life he never calculates when somebody else needs something. The scene everyone remembers has him risking himself to move a burning fuel tanker. Vasily Shukshin built his first feature out of his own short stories and took the Lion of St Mark at Venice. Leonid Kuravlyov keeps the man likeable without ever making him simple.
