What They Were Sisters Is About
The film tells the story of three sisters. All three marry, and their roads separate. The first makes a happy marriage. She cannot have children, though. The second married a man she did not love. The marriage gives her nothing. The woman distracts herself outside it. The husband of the third is a domineering man. He knows how to inflict pain without raising a hand. Year after year he humiliates his wife. Her will is slowly broken. Nobody outside sees what goes on inside that house. As the sisters understand it they want to step in. Getting into that house is not easy. Phyllis Calvert and James Mason appear in the hundred and ten minute film, a British production Arthur Crabtree finished in 1945.
