Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam

Senna Hegde's 2021 Malayalam film follows the preparations for an engagement in North Kerala. Relatives arrive for the ceremony of Vijayan's daughter Suja; the bride is hesitant, the father is short of money and every new guest opens a new matter. The film fits into two days. The narrative produces no events; the cooking, the phone calls and the family arguments follow one another, and the comedy comes out of those details. The cast is entirely local and non-professional; the dialogue is in regional speech and close to improvised. Hegde shot the film with a very small crew in his own town, and that method continued in his later work. Who it's for: those who like small-scale Malayalam town comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a central character and a plot; the film follows the crowd.
