Three Smart Girls

The Craig sisters, Penny, Kay and Joan, live with their mother in Switzerland. When they learn that the father who left years ago is about to marry a woman in New York who is after his money, all three set off. The plan is to break up the wedding and get their parents back together, and the only weapons they have are determination and a certain amount of lying. This was Deanna Durbin's first leading role, and the success of the film made her a star overnight. Henry Koster keeps the comedy quick, light and sweet, while Durbin lifts the picture a step every time she sings. Ray Milland and Charles Winninger are also in the cast. It is also the first of the run of family comedies the young actress would make one after another.
