Time Out

An oil company camp in a Colombian town called Nuevo Texas becomes a guerrilla target, and armed forces and guerrillas end up facing each other across it. Then both sides discover they want the same thing, which is to watch Colombia play Argentina in a World Cup qualifier. There is exactly one working television in town, so the enemies negotiate a truce that lasts as long as the match, and the absurdity of the war gathers itself around ninety minutes of football. Sergio Cabrera’s hundred and twenty minute film takes the country’s armed conflict and handles it in the language of popular comedy, without ever cutting the laughter loose from the pain underneath. The Spanish, Italian and Colombian co-production was nominated for the Goya for best Spanish language foreign film, and stars Emma Suárez.
