The documentary rests on an essay Michel Houellebecq wrote in 1991. The essay is about the work of the poet, about staying alive as an artist, and about mental health. In the film the text is read by Iggy Pop. The camera films Houellebecq in his grandparents’ kitchen. It also shows real people from the writer’s life; the stories the essay rests on are theirs. Some of them live with psychiatric conditions. The account does not present them as examples or as cases. The seventy minutes move back and forth between the text and the people. Arno Hagers, Reinier van Brummelen and Erik Lieshout’s Dutch documentary was completed in 2016.
