What Tokyo Towers: Mom and Me, and Sometimes Dad Is About
Masaya's parents separated when he was small and the boy grew up with his mother in the provinces. He goes to Tokyo for university and lives for years in a mess, in debt and without direction. Eventually he finds work as an illustrator and brings his mother to live with him. Years later she falls ill and Masaya has to look after her for the first time. Jōji Matsuoka's film is adapted from Lily Franky's autobiographical book, which was a bestseller in Japan. Joe Odagiri plays Masaya and Kirin Kiki the mother.
