Tony Parker: The Final Shot

Florent Bodin's documentary tells the story of French basketball's most successful player backwards from the end of his career. Tony Parker, born to a Belgian mother and an American father and raised in France, was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs at nineteen and won four championships under Gregg Popovich's discipline. The film places him at the centre of the generation that proved a player from Europe could lead an NBA team rather than support one. Alongside archive footage, Popovich, Tim Duncan and Thierry Henry speak, and Kobe Bryant appears in the material. The shape is the standard sports documentary arc: rise, injury, farewell. It sits closer to tribute than to scrutiny. Who it's for: viewers following NBA history and the arrival of European players in the league. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a film that questions its subject from the outside.
