On 12 June 1993 a concert was given in Senate Square in Helsinki. On stage were the Leningrad Cowboys and the Red Army Choir: a hundred singers, forty musicians and twenty dancers. More than seventy thousand people filled the square. The programme ran from Volga songs to American rock numbers and on to Sibelius. Aki Kaurismäki's fifty-seven minute documentary gives the concert almost as it happened: no interviews, no commentary, only the stage and the crowd. It was two years since the Soviet Union had come apart, and the Red Army Choir sharing a stage in Helsinki with a rock band was an event in itself. At the end the two groups link arms and sing the same song.
