Touch of Pink

Alim lives in London with his boyfriend Giles. His mother Nuru, a conservative Muslim, stayed behind in Canada and does not know her son is gay. Alim also has an adviser nobody else can see: the ghost of Cary Grant, permanently at his shoulder and never short of a line. When Nuru turns up in London unannounced, Alim and Giles have to perform being straight. Ian Iqbal Rashid's film uses the shape of a comedy to look from the side of a gay Muslim man and from the side of an immigrant mother, and it declines to make a caricature of Nuru. Jimi Mistry plays Alim, Kyle MacLachlan plays Cary Grant and Suleka Mathew plays Nuru.
