What Two for the Seesaw Is About
Jerry Ryan is a lawyer who has left his wife and moved from Omaha to New York. He is studying for the bar exam, trying to finalise the divorce, and knows nobody in the city. At a party he meets Gittel Mosca, who lives in Greenwich Village, is trying to make it as a dancer, and is unwell and broke. The two begin a wary courtship. Gittel gives herself completely; Jerry is still tied to his former wife. What becomes of it depends on whether he can face that. Robert Wise directs, adapting William Gibson's two-hander play, with Robert Mitchum as Jerry and Shirley MacLaine as Gittel. A hundred and nineteen minutes. The cinematographer Ted McCord was nominated for an Oscar.
