What Two Lost in a Dirty Night Is About
In New York two Brazilians without papers start sharing an abandoned warehouse. Tonho is shy, humble and honest, worn out by badly paid work, and all he wants is to go home. Paco is hard, provoking and closed off, hates being called Rita, lives passing as a boy to the outside world, and dreams of singing and getting into the charts. The time the two spend in that narrow space swings between friendship and hostility, and needing each other softens neither of them. The film was adapted from a two hander by Plinio Marcos in which both characters were men. Debora Falabella and Roberto Bomtempo appear in Jose Joffily’s hundred minute Brazilian film, completed in 2002.
