Tyrannosaur

A man living alone who cannot control his rage meets a woman at a charity shop where he takes shelter one day. She is kind, religious and apparently at peace. The film does not contrast these two, it joins them: the situation in her house is far worse than his, and the narrative opens it slowly. His reckoning with his own violence does not turn into a story about rescuing her. It is Paddy Considine's first feature, developed from his own short. Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman lead; it was the film that first showed Colman's dramatic range to a wide audience. A real warning: it contains severe domestic violence, violence against an animal and sexual abuse, all shown directly. Even the opening scene announces this. Do not come to it unprepared.
