Kabir Singh

Kabir is a brilliant medical student with an anger he cannot control. He forms a relationship with Preeti, a student in a lower year, but it is founded on possession from the start: he decides who she sits with and what she wears. When the families refuse the marriage, Kabir sets about destroying himself with alcohol and drugs. Sandeep Reddy Vanga made it as the Hindi remake of his own Telugu film Arjun Reddy. Shahid Kapoor leads and it became one of the highest-grossing Indian releases of its year. It was criticised on the same scale: the romanticising of the character's behaviour toward the woman caused a large argument, and the director's response to that criticism enlarged it. Who it is for: viewers who like intense Hindi melodrama and want to watch Shahid Kapoor. Who it is not for: anyone who will not accept control and violence toward a woman presented as love.
