Unconquered

England, 1763. To escape the gallows, Abigail Hale agrees to fourteen years of bonded servitude in the colony of Virginia and is shipped across the Atlantic. There her path crosses that of Chris Holden, a frontiersman. At the same time the war drums have started up in the Ohio valley, and behind them is Martin Garth, who has been selling guns to the tribes. A large, crowded Cecil B. DeMille production that belongs entirely to its own moment. What it is most criticised for now is presenting Native peoples as a more or less one-dimensional threat. Gary Cooper and Paulette Goddard lead, with Boris Karloff in the cast.
