Undefeated

Undefeated, co-directed by Daniel Lindsay and T.J. Martin, had its world premiere at SXSW on March 13, 2011. The documentary follows the Manassas Tigers, a Memphis high school football team, through their 2009 season under volunteer coach Bill Courtney as they chase the program's first playoff win in its 110 year history, shot over more than 500 hours of footage. After the SXSW premiere, The Weinstein Company acquired distribution rights, and Sean Combs joined as executive producer in February 2012. The film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 84th Academy Awards on February 26, 2012. Who it's for: anyone curious about an Oscar winning documentary that spent over 500 hours filming a high school football team's playoff chase. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a film focused purely on the games, since the documentary weighs heavily on the players' and coach's personal lives.
