What Unexpected Family Is About
An old man in the town starts losing his memory. The people around him try something: to rebuild an important family moment from his life so he can live it once more. They divide the parts, prepare the house, stage that day again. But as the rehearsals go on, it comes out who did what. The man's past is not what he was told it was, and the people acting it out learn something about themselves as well. Li Taiyan directs the Chinese film; two hours and one minute, with Jackie Chan as the old man and Peng Yuchang in the cast. Chan has long since moved away from fight films into parts that suit his age, and this belongs to that stretch of his work.
