What Unfinished Sky Is About
John Woldring, an Australian farmer who withdrew from the world after his wife died, takes in Tahmeena, an Afghan woman escaping violence from people in the nearby town. The two have to learn to live together without a shared language, and fear, mistrust and a slowly built closeness all grow in the same house. Peter Duncan adapted the Dutch film The Polish Bride into an Australian setting, and Monic Hendrickx, who plays Tahmeena, had the title role in the original as well. It says something quiet and careful about fear of the stranger in post September eleventh Australia.
