Unity

The documentary's question is this: with everything science, literature, philosophy, technology and religion have covered, why does the human being still kill one another, the animals and nature. The film takes this up in sections, each built around a separate concept. The telling runs entirely on voiceover, and the narration is shared out among more than a hundred actors, musicians and athletes. Shaun Monson had earlier made Earthlings, about the use of animals, and this film can be read as its continuation. The approach is contested: the film does not build an argument, it builds a mood; instead of evidence and an opposing view, image and speech are layered over each other. Some critics found this too vague and too much like a sermon. Against that, the question the film asks is a real question and nobody has the answer.
