What Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election Is About
The documentary takes up the 2000 American presidential election and the vote count in Florida. The undisputed part of the facts is this: the result turned on Florida, the state secretary certified on 26 November 2000 that George W. Bush had won by five hundred and thirty seven votes, the case went to the Supreme Court, and on 12 December the court halted the recount by five votes to four. Florida’s electors accordingly went to Bush. The film argues that the process was marred by irregularities and by purges of the voter rolls. It also points out that the state was governed by the winning candidate’s brother. Those arguments are the film’s own. Richard Ray Perez and Joan Sekler’s fifty minute American documentary was completed in 2002.
