Until the Ship Sails

A man from the mountains leaves his village. He has decided to go to Australia. To board the ship he has to make his way down to the harbour. The film tells that descent in three stories. In the first he helps out a blacksmith he knows. He finds himself drawn to the man’s girlfriend. He takes flight because of it. In the second he meets a young woman. She is as hard to pin down as the wild country itself, and her road ends in a brothel. In the third he reaches the port of Piraeus. He is put up in the house of a couple who are on the point of divorce. The film comes from two Greek stories and a popular song. Christos Tsagas and Alexis Damianos appear in the eighty nine minute film, a Greek production Alexis Damianos finished in 1966.
