What Upendra Is About
A man who calls himself only Naanu, that is Me, never gives up saying what he takes to be true, and so is at odds with everyone. Three women enter his life, each standing for a different search of his: responsibility, desire and recognition. Thrown between the three, he wants to carry the weight of none of them, and in the end has to settle accounts with himself. The film is not a straight love story but an allegory looking at a person’s own selfishness; in the year it appeared it was much argued over and became a cult. Raveena Tandon and Prema appear in the hundred and thirty eight minute Kannada film by Upendra, who also wrote it.
