What Uuno Turhapuro armeijan leivissä Is About
One instalment in Finland's longest running comedy series. When it emerges that Uuno spent exactly one day in the army in his youth, he is sent back to complete his compulsory service. The usual arrangement of the series holds here too: his friends return for a refresher course and his father in law happens to become defence minister at the same moment, so the whole institution ends up inside the family. The film mocks the Finnish army and the seriousness of the state without hesitation, and its comedy comes less from the character's idleness than from institutions being unable to cope with him. Vesa-Matti Loiri had played the part for years and carries all of it. Ere Kokkonen directed.
