Manu Ashokan's first film, from 2019, is about a young woman who wants to be a pilot. Pallavi is accepted for aviation training, while her long-term boyfriend is jealous, controlling and increasingly threatening. When she ends the relationship, he throws acid at her. The film's real subject is not the attack but what follows: the hospital, the surgeries, her family's reaction, the law, and above all whether she can continue toward a career in aviation. It builds her not as a victim but as someone trying to get back to her own goal, and deliberately refuses pity. Parvathy Thiruvothu's performance carries it. The screenplay is by Bobby and Sanjay. It was both a critical and commercial success in Kerala. Who it's for: viewers who like woman-centred Indian drama and realistic telling. Who it's not for: anyone who would rather not approach an acid attack and scenes of treatment afterwards.
