Vaseegara

K. Selvabharathy's 2003 Tamil film follows Bhupathi, sent by his father to stay with a family friend. He is expected to live there and look for work; he falls in love with his host's daughter, who is already engaged. The film proceeds without the relationship being declared. Bhupathi says nothing and tries not to upset the balance of the house; the narrative builds its tension not through large scenes but through everyday closeness. Vijay and Sneha lead, with Vadivelu carrying the comic line. The music is foregrounded and the songs are what the film is known for. The narrative follows the melodrama form and raises its emotional emphasis in the final section. Who it's for: those who like Tamil romantic drama of the two thousands. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with interest in an engaged woman treated without question.
