What Vengeance Is About
A French chef arrives in Macau to take revenge after an attack on his daughter’s family, in which her husband and her children were killed and she was left badly hurt. To find the killers he hires three local hit men who work for the mob. But his own memory is going, and before long he can no longer hold on to who he is avenging or why. Johnnie To builds this less as an action film than as a story about loyalty: what actually carries the man is the promise the men he hired made to him. Johnny Hallyday leads.
