Vengeance in the Dreary Night

Danial Rifki's 2025 Indonesian film begins after a murder has been committed. Jefri and Sarah are having an affair and have killed his wife Sofia; the plan is simple, the body will be found and it will look like an accident. But the corpse disappears from the morgue and the pair struggle to defend the story they built. Inspector Arya, who takes the case, tries to solve it by reason, while something stands there that reason cannot explain. The film keeps that uncertainty: the viewer does not know to the end whether something supernatural is happening or someone is punishing the two. The story tries to give visual form to guilt, using darkness, mirrors and repeated images. The tone lies between thriller and horror. Who it's for: viewers who like Indonesian thrillers and stories about guilt. Who it's not for: anyone expecting a clear explanation; the film deliberately withholds one.
