What Video Nasties: Draconian Days Is About
The documentary is about the period in Britain that followed the video recordings act of 1984. The act brought the home video market under control, and horror was the genre where that control was applied most harshly; the list of films cut, banned and taken out of circulation grew long. The film rests on interviews with people who lived through those years and on archive footage. The account speaks openly from a position against censorship and accuses those who defended the controls of playing moral guardian; that view is the film’s own. It is a continuation of an earlier documentary by the same team. Jake West’s ninety seven minute British documentary was completed in 2014.
