Vile & Miserable

Jean-François Leblanc's 2025 Quebec film follows an immortal demon who runs a bookshop. He does not like people and the shop is about to close. He is forced to work with a young and enthusiastic assistant. The film builds the pair as comedy; the narrative takes as its ground a world where books share a sales floor with cars and mocks the culture industry. It is adapted from a graphic novel. Fabien Cloutier and Pier-Luc Funk appear. The tone is close to the absurd. Who it's for: those who like Quebec comedy and absurd humour. Who it's not for: viewers expecting realist storytelling; the film runs on a fantastical ground.
