Von Trier's 100 Eyes

The film watches the shooting of Dancer in the Dark. It is not an ordinary making of. What it really records is the state Lars von Trier was in. His doubts about working with his crew and his cast come out on camera. His relations with the actresses are the hardest part of it. Björk walks off the set one day. Nobody knows whether she will come back. Von Trier says on camera that women can make him feel threatened. The documentary turns into a kind of diary because of that. He explains why a hundred cameras were used in one sequence. He argues about what the Dogma 95 rules are good for. One question is left at the end. Is the pain of the shoot visible in the finished film? Dancer in the Dark took the Palme d’Or at Cannes that year. Lars von Trier and Björk appear in the fifty six minute documentary, a Danish production Katia Forbert finished in 2000.
