Welcome al Norte

Gustavo Loza's 2023 Mexican film follows Polito, who works at a courier office in Yucatán. He wants a promotion and a move to Cancún with his family. The plans fall apart one by one. The film makes comic material of the difference between the provinces and the tourist coast; the narrative does not find Polito's ambition ridiculous and puts family ties first. Silverio Palacios leads. The tone is light and the jokes rest on local speech. The production is mid-scale. Who it's for: those who like Mexican popular comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting subtle humour; the film aims straight at the laugh.
