Whale

A fishing boat comes back to port. In the nets is a single small fish. The crew are embarrassed. To save face they tell a lie. They report a catch of three hundred kilos of mackerel. The port administration likes the news. They want the success to look larger still. The figure is inflated on paper. The mackerel turns into bonito. The bonito becomes a dolphin, and the dolphin a whale. The higher the news travels the bigger it grows. Celebrations begin and medals are handed out. But there is no whale anywhere. The film tells it as a satire on bureaucracy. Georgi Kaloyanchev and Georgi Partsalev appear in the eighty minute film, a Bulgarian production Petar B. Vasilev finished in 1970.
