What What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Is About
This 2018 documentary asks why Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was treated at first as the franchise's stepchild and how it became one of its most loved entries. Unlike the other Star Trek series it was set on a fixed station, its characters were flawed, and it was built on war, occupation, religion and moral grey areas; the documentary describes the resistance that difference met. Avery Brooks, Nana Visitor, Michael Dorn, René Auberjonois and Terry Farrell are among those who speak. Its most interesting section gathers the original writers in a room to break the first episode of a never-produced eighth season. Some scenes were remastered in high definition. The production was funded largely by fans. Who it's for: viewers of Deep Space Nine and anyone curious about how a series is made. Who it's not for: anyone who has not seen the show; the documentary assumes knowledge throughout.
