Who Killed the KLF?

Chris Atkins's 2023 documentary is about the British duo who topped the charts at the end of the eighties. Bill Drummond and Jimi Cauty made mocking the music industry their work. The argument is that all of it was performance. The pair fought lawsuits over sampling, published the recipe for making a hit as a book, and in the end destroyed a large sum of the money they had made; the narrative tries to explain that last act without settling on an answer. The archive is wide and television footage of the period is used. Alan Moore and musicians of the time speak. Who it's for: those curious about music history and cultural provocation. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a clear explanation; the documentary leaves the question open.
