Why Me?

Cristian is a young prosecutor with a rising career, and he is handed a heavy file: he is to investigate a senior colleague accused of corruption. The further he opens the file, the more the pressure grows. Cristian is caught between what his profession requires and the result that is expected of him. He does not know who he can trust either. Tudor Giurgiu's film starts from a real case in Romania in 2002: the file of Cristian Panait, a prosecutor of twenty-nine. Panait's death was entered in the official record as suicide; the argument about it continues in Romania to this day. The film passes no verdict; it shows how an institution closes in on a person. It screened in the Panorama section in Berlin.
