What Winnebago Man Is About
Winnebago Man follows Jack Rebney, the real man behind a profanity laced 1988 Winnebago sales video outtake reel that spread first on bootleg VHS tapes and later on YouTube, earning him unwanted fame as "the angriest man in the world." Director Ben Steinbauer tracks down Rebney, who was living as a recluse on a mountaintop, decades after the footage was shot. The film had its world premiere at SXSW in 2009 before its 2010 theatrical release. Who it's for: anyone interested in documentaries that trace a pre internet viral video phenomenon back to the real person behind it. Who it's not for: viewers expecting an easy, one note "funny guy" documentary, since the film digs into Rebney's genuinely complicated personality.
