Winter Spring Summer or Fall

Remi and Barnes, in their final year of school, meet on four separate days across one year. One day in each season: the first meeting, growing closeness, a break and an outcome. The film shows only those four days and says nothing about what happened in between. It is not interested in young love. It is interested in skipping time: the audience does not see the relationship develop, only where it stands at four stops, and fills in the difference itself. The form is a two-hander: long walks, conversations in a car, single-night events. The turning of the seasons is marked distinctly. Tiffany Paulsen directed. Jenna Ortega and Percy Hynes White lead; they had worked together on a series before, and the film is built on that familiarity. Who it is for: viewers who like teen romance and structures built on time jumps. Who it is not for: anyone looking for originality. The structure is familiar, the dialogue is over-written in places and the outcome is predictable.
