Worlds of Ursula K. Le Guin

The documentary tells the life of Ursula K. Le Guin, one of the most important writers of science fiction and fantasy. Raised in a family of anthropologists, she was for many years counted as being at the edge of mainstream literature; she was not taken seriously because she wrote genre fiction, and separately because she was a woman. Even so she built her own place with books that asked about gender roles, about power and about whether another kind of society is possible. The film includes interviews with the writer herself, what her family has to say and animated passages bringing the worlds of her books to life. Arwen Curry’s sixty seven minute American documentary was completed in 2018; Le Guin was born in 1929 and died that same year.
