What Yobi, The Five-Tailed Fox Is About
In Korean folklore the gumiho is a nine-tailed fox that can take any shape and lives by stealing human souls. Yobi has only five tails. Since fox hunters took her family she has been living in the forest with a group of stranded aliens, and when villagers capture one of them she has to go down into the human world to get him back. Disguised as a girl, she enrols at a school for misfits and finds she likes it: the friendships, the boy, the ordinary afternoons. The catch is that staying human means taking a soul from someone else. Lee Sung-gang turns the old tale into a story about what a wish costs.
