What Yoshino's Barber Shop Is About
The story is set in a small town. The barber’s shop there is run by a woman called Yoshino. The shop is part of the habits of the town. Every boy in the town goes about with the same haircut. It is a single style, cut round like a bowl. The cut even has a name of its own there. Nobody objects to it. Families count it as tradition. One day a pupil arrives from Tokyo. The boy’s hair is long and light in colour. The balance in the classroom shifts at once. The other boys start looking at their own hair differently. A small matter turns into a large argument. The film tells it with a quiet humour. Masako Motai and Ryo Yoneda appear in the ninety six minute film, a Japanese production Naoko Ogigami finished in 2004.
