What You and Me Is About
A young woman newly arrived in Beijing rents a room in an old courtyard house. Her landlady is a hard bargainer who resists even letting a telephone line in, and the two are at odds from the first day. Then four seasons pass in the same courtyard and the friction turns into something else: the old woman warms to her tenant’s youth, the tenant to a world that modern Beijing has left behind. Ma Liwen made the film on almost nothing, and Jin Yaqin took best actress for it both in Tokyo and at the Golden Rooster awards.
