What You and Me Is About
Pyotr, once a neurosurgeon with everything ahead of him, gives up his research and his career abroad and comes home, without himself knowing what he is looking for. As he meets his old friend, his wife and his colleagues, the cost of his choices comes before him. In the end he takes a job in Siberia and tests himself inside another kind of life, but the regret does not let go. Larisa Shepitko’s ninety six minute Soviet film is about a generation’s mistrust of its own work and of itself; it was cut by the censors. Leonid Dyachkov and Alla Demidova appear; it was completed in 1971.
