You're Killing Me Susana

Eligio, an actor in Mexico City, wakes one morning to find his wife Susana gone; without telling him she has been accepted onto a writing programme in the United States. He follows her and tries to win her back in Iowa, in the snow, without the language and without knowing anyone. Roberto Sneider does not build a romantic comedy; Eligio's persistence goes to uncomfortable places at times and the film does not vindicate him. Gael García Bernal leads and never softens the character's childishness. Verónica Echegui plays Susana. Its best decision is that the woman never feels obliged to explain why she left. Who it is for: viewers who like Mexican cinema and black comedy about relationships. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a conventional romantic comedy, since reunion is not offered as a reward.
