Anne-Marie Duff

Anne-Marie Duff plays Julia, John Lennon's mother, in Nowhere Boy. The archive text calls her playing fizzingly volatile and ranks her in the same breath: the film is pretty much walked away with by Kristin Scott-Thomas, and that happens in spite of Duff. What decides it, for that writer, is Scott-Thomas's knack for carrying feeling under a hard surface.
