What French Film Is About
Jed, a journalist, is preparing to interview Thierry Grimandi, a French director fond of holding forth on the nature of love, and he fully intends to dismiss what the man says as posturing. But just then his own relationship, his bond with Cheryl, begins to crack, and Jed finds he has to take those words seriously. Before long everyone is talking about love: the relationship counsellor, his drinking friend Marcus and Marcus’s girlfriend Sophie. The film sets the English and the French approach against each other and makes fun of both. In Jackie Oudney’s eighty seven minute British comedy, Éric Cantona plays Grimandi, with Hugh Bonneville, Anne-Marie Duff and Victoria Hamilton as the people around him. It was completed in 2008.
