Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show; his co-star Jeff Bridges was nominated in the same category, and the supporting actress award went to Cloris Leachman for the same film. All twenty of his films in the catalogue date from 1992 or earlier, and the weight of them is western: John Ford's She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, George Stevens' Shane, One-Eyed Jacks, which Marlon Brando directed, and Sam Peckinpah's The Getaway and Junior Bonner. He played Captain Tanner in The Sugarland Express, Steven Spielberg's first film for cinemas, made when Spielberg was in his mid-twenties and had spent some five years on television movies and episodes.
